Camosun Media

The main source of news for me
comes from social media sites, or just trending news from search engines such
as Google or Bing. Occasionally I’ll walk in on a family member who may be
watching the local news or reading an intriguing article, but this doesn’t
happen too often.
Traditional media was once the
primary source for all of my news, due to the internet not being as popular as
it is today, but with many older forms of media losing popularity in today’s
society, I find myself barely using the radio, television, or newspapers to
follow current events.
I believe Camosun is going
down a similar path, slowly abandoning its more traditional forms of news for
promotion through the internet. The college’s local paper seems to still have a
good sized audience and it is rather common to find an ad near a bus stop, but
using social media and the Camsoun website appear to be the best way for
getting news out.
Even though the older forms of
media are disappearing, it would be better to keep them as an option to those
who prefer it. Having the option to read up on local news through a newspaper
is better than completely getting rid of it, along with a potentially large
audience as well. There are still people who always have, and will continue to
get their information through these sources. Keeping these options open will
only increase the amount of potential audiences that this news will appeal to.
